Six Basic Defenses

Six Basic Defenses:
  1. Slide
  2. Switch
  3. Money
  4. Rotation
  5. Rover
  6. 22
Visually explained...

Slide Defense
Your outside hitter moves into the middle behind the middle blocker to cover tips and the left back cheats up a little to cover back row and an easy tip.

Switch Defense
Outside hitter slides back row to LB while RB moves to cover tip middle.

Money Defense
Two tip covers and give up the line.

Rotation Defense
LB takes tips and everyone else rotates right to cover edges of the court while giving up the middle (if you have a good block) but too much movement and too difficult.

Rover Defense
Setter usually sits in the middle of the court and follows the hitter to get all the tips.

22 Defense
Outside blocker moves more inside and invites the outside hitter to hit line. The LB must be fast and get tips.
